Anantnag Town Under Massive Raids for Sale of Illicit Smoking.
Anantnag: The Jammu and Kashmir although is implementing the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 (COTPA) even than Kashmir is on the top of the Smoking Pyramid including the sale of illicit smoking.
Followed by Srinagar, Anantnag districts stands at number second on the sale and consumption of cigarettes. The concern Citizens Anantnag in coordination with Food Safety Department government of J&K has raided today in the entire town, areas including Janglat Mandi , Lalchock ,Khanabal chowk and areas close to schools and colleges where also targeted during this campaign.

Zameer Ahmad District Officer Food Safety Department government of J&K was heading this campaign while taking to media said that illicit smoking which include the brands like WIN , ESS and others are mostly sold without regulation and specified warnings and today we have been able to seize more than eight licenses of vendors and recovered illicit cigarette worth thousands he added.
He added that the campaign will continue to end this menace in this township.
Mir Nisar a prominent social worker has appreciated this move by the government and stressed the need to implement COPTA across the state he added saying that the current dispensation shoul also see the overtunes and effect of this illicit smoking among youth and adolescent.

This event has been appreciated across the professions particularly the media , business and civil society of district Anantnag, while taking to meida Advocate Asif retreated to put in the sustainable measures to eliminate the illegal sale of cigarettes in Jammu and Kashmir and appealed the civil socity to come forward and support imitative like this.
